Rains: More billboards to collapse if action not taken

The Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) has warned that more billboards could collapse, causing property damage and accidents, if urgent action is not taken by authorities as the rains approach.

This comes amid a growing trend of billboards being erected in inappropriate locations, including pedestrian walkways and intersections, posing serious risks to public safety.

Speaking to Citi News, the President of AAG, Andrews Ackah, expressed concern over the lack of action despite numerous complaints and engagement efforts with relevant authorities.

He stressed the need for stricter regulation and enforcement to prevent further incidents.

“I’m sad to say that we brought this issue over and over again; we only wait for the rains to pour for us to have these conversations, and we go back to sleep. I’m sorry to say, there’s going to be more rains, and we’re going to have more of these billboards falling.

“We have had casualties before, and we have had properties damaged lost in the past. And I still do not understand why the authorities do not have the courage, if I should say, they are the ones who have the laws in their bossom.

“Either they do not have the courage, or they are under-utilized. The authorities are the ones who should be held responsible for making sure that they have the right permits out there. For making sure billboards pass integrity tests and maintenance.”
