Sylvester Mensah, Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM), has praised Channel One TV and Citi FM for hosting the annual “Back to Your Village” Food Festival.
Speaking on Day 1 of the highly attended event on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly forecourt, Mensah highlighted the festival’s impact in promoting Ghanaian cuisine and providing vendors with a valuable platform to showcase their offerings.
He noted that beyond celebrating Ghana’s culinary heritage, the festival encourages vendors to refine their skills and innovate to attract more customers.
Mensah also urged participants to explore opportunities beyond local markets by focusing on food processing and packaging for export, positioning Ghanaian cuisine on the global stage.
”I want to commend all the exhibitors and all those showcasing their food here. I’m commending you because this offers an opportunity not only to showcase what we do every day. But an opportunity for us to innovate in our cooking, food production.
“Not only for local consumption, but to get to the stage where we can process this food in a way, package this food in a way that we can export,” he stated.
He assured vendors of GEXIM’s support, stating that the bank is dedicated to facilitating import and export activities.
“EXIM-Bank is about import and export, and anything that has to do with import and export, you can rely on EXIM-Bank. It is our hope that most of us here will not only sell all our food stuff and go home happy. But learn a few things from our clients in order to further improve upon what we do.
He added, “Let us not only have a Ghanaian market in mind, but to look beyond our borders and see how we can package some of these foods and export them. EXIM-Bank will be behind you any day that you think that your food have gotten to a stage that you can package for export.”
The “Back to Your Village” Food Festival, organized by Channel One TV and Citi FM, is a two-day event celebrating authentic Ghanaian cuisine.
The festival provides a platform for vendors to showcase traditional dishes and explore opportunities for growth and innovation in the culinary sector.
Day two of the Food Festival will continue on Sunday, March 30.
