A severe rainstorm has ravaged Achiansah, a farming community in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, causing widespread destruction and displacing many residents.

The storm, which lasted for several hours, tore off roofs, exposed homes to the heavy rainfall, and submerged several houses, leaving numerous families homeless.

According to reports, over 150 residents have been displaced, with many seeking shelter with friends, relatives, or in church buildings.

The Assemblyman for the area, Kwaku Kumi, also known as Agbomo-Jay, has appealed to the government for urgent assistance, emphasising the need for roofing sheets, iron rods, and other materials to repair damaged homes.

Residents who spoke to GhanaWeb journalist, Eric Obeng Boateng, described the devastating impact of the storm, with many counting their losses and anxiously awaiting interventions to help restore their lives.

Some residents sustained injuries and were rushed to the Koforidua Government Hospital for treatment.

The community is calling on the government, their Member of Parliament, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, and other benevolent individuals to provide support and aid to help them rebuild their homes and restore their livelihoods.
