Dutch-born Ghanaian footballer Memphis Depay inspired Corinthians to end their trophy drought after defeating Palmeiras on Thursday, March 28, 2025.

Corinthians secured a 1-0 aggregate victory, winning the first leg away before settling for a goalless draw in the reverse fixture.

Depay played a key role in the team’s title-winning campaign, scoring two crucial goals in their run to claim their first trophy in six years.

The Netherlands striker played the full 90 minutes in the decisive match and was at the center of a heated brawl in the final moments.

In an attempt to waste time, Depay dribbled the ball toward the corner flag and stood on it with both feet, provoking an intense reaction from Palmeiras players.

The incident quickly escalated, with players from both teams rushing in as officials struggled to restore order. It was one of several fiery moments in the match, which saw three red cards issued.

Despite the chaotic ending, Depay, who joined the Brazilian club on a free transfer, secured his first title with Corinthians in his debut season.
