Akofa Edjeani Declines Mahama’s NFA Role

Akofa Edjeani

Veteran actress, Akofa Edjeani has shut down claims that she was not happy about not having an appointment at the National Film Authority (NFA), indicating that she voluntarily withdrew from being considered for the Executive Secretary position.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, Ms Edjeani revealed that although she initially submitted her CV, she later informed President John Dramani Mahama that she was no longer interested in the role.

“I submitted my CV to the President, but as I said, you can’t tell the President what to do. Also, the fact that I didn’t get the position is no big deal at all. I sent a message to the President long before the appointments were made, stating that I was no longer interested,” she explained.

Her comments come amid speculation that she was disappointed by the appointment of fellow actors Kafui Danku-Pitcher and James Gardiner to the Ghana Film Authority. However, she dismissed claims that she is against their selection, urging industry players to support them.

“All we need to do is support Kafui and James to succeed. You know how much I have contributed to this industry, so I believe that’s why my name was mentioned for the position. However, I have no problem with Kafui and James being appointed. I am not upset about their appointments,” she stated.

Ms. Edjeani emphasised that her decision to step back was personal and not influenced by any rivalry or dissatisfaction, urging unity within the film industry for its growth.
