A man has come forward with claims that the fire outbreak at the Adum BlueLight Market was caused by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). According to him, the fire was a result of unstable power supply from ECG, which had affected electrical appliances in the area the night before the incident.
In an interview with Ghanaian Blogger Boateng Ameyaw, he explained that on the night before the fire, many shop owners in the market experienced unusual electrical issues. He said that several light bulbs in different shops suddenly burnt out due to irregular power supply. According to him, the voltage kept fluctuating between high and low, causing instability in the electrical system. This situation damaged many electrical appliances in the shops.
The man further stated that he strongly believes the fire outbreak in the morning was a direct result of the unstable electricity supply. He said that the previous night’s power issues had already caused harm, and it was not surprising that a fire broke out the next morning. In his opinion, ECG’s poor management of electricity in the area was responsible for the disaster.

The fire incident has raised concerns among shop owners and residents, who are now demanding answers about what truly caused the fire. Many are calling for an investigation into the matter to determine whether ECG’s unstable power supply played a role in the fire outbreak.
While ECG has not yet responded to these allegations, the affected shop owners are hoping for a proper investigation to prevent such an incident from happening again. They believe that if the electricity supply had been stable, the fire might not have occurred.
The fire destroyed several shops and properties, leaving business owners counting their losses. Many are now appealing to the government and relevant authorities to take action and support the victims.
