The former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has stressed the importance of fostering greater maturity and decorum in Ghana’s political landscape.
Speaking on The Pulse show on JoyNews, she urged politicians to raise their standards of conduct and adopt more responsible behaviours in their actions.
She emphasised the need for a shift in political culture, advocating for a more respectful and professional approach to governance.
She also highlighted the legal implications of certain political actions, pointing out that some could be seen as violations, such as trespassing or invasion of privacy.
“If we consider the legalities, it could amount to trespassing, invasion of privacy, and so on,” she noted, urging politicians to be more mindful of the ethical and legal aspects of their actions.
She also argued that political activities should be conducted in a lawful and humane manner, which would ultimately benefit the development of Ghana’s democracy.
“If we are to engage in such actions, it should be done in a more lawful and humane way, as this will contribute positively to the development of our democracy,” she stated.
She also reflected on the temporary nature of governments, cautioning that the public could eventually become disillusioned if political practices do not improve.
“Governments come and go. I believe that, at some point, Ghanaians will become fed up,” she said. She urged politicians to engage in self-reflection, considering how their actions may impact the nation in the long term.
“We should advise ourselves for the good of the nation,” she concluded, reiterating the need for politicians to adopt a more mature and responsible approach to their roles in order to safeguard the future of Ghana’s democracy.
