NPP supporters crying out on social media following the alleged detainment of Okatakyie Afrifa by national security operatives have been slammed for being hypocrites.
According to netizens, Akufo-Addo engaged in far worse repression of the press and those same NPP supporters had nothing to say.
Okatakyie Afrifa, the host of the online, NPP-leaning show For the Records, was reportedly arrested by national security operatives on Wednesday.
According to reports, Afrifa was detained and later released. No official reason has been given for his arrest.
After he was picked up, NPP supporters went into overdrive protesting his arrest, claiming that the NDC and John Dramani Mahama are being dictatorial.
One NPP supporter claimed as NDC leaning journalists such as Kevin Taylor and Captain Smart are walking free, the government has “the effrontery to arrest okatakyie?? You guys are going to put all of us in jail then!!”
However, social media users quickly pointed out the hypocrisy in the post.
“Do you how many times Captain smart was arrested within the last 8 years? If you want to condemn it just condemn both sides and stop fooling here,” one user said.
Another mentioned journalists such as Captain Smart, Salifu ‘Mugabe’ Maase, and Twitter influencer Bongo Ideas, who were arrested, prosecuted and ‘disappeared’ under the Akufo-Addo regime.
He added that Okatakyie can rot in jail and no one will care.
Luckily, the former ABN host was released soon after his arrest.
