Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin [L] and former BoG Governor
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has paid a visit to the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, following a raid on his house by operatives of the National Security.
The exercise was allegedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.
The Effutu MP is said to have expressed indignation at the raid and comforted the former Governor of the BoG, vowing to demand answers from the government.
Armed men, numbering about 20 and led by Richard Jakpa, reportedly raided the home of Dr. Ernest Addison on Wednesday, March 19.
The operation took place at his Roman Ridge residence in Accra. Dr. Addison was at home when the heavily armed men—some in balaclavas and wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles—arrived to conduct a search.
Upon arrival, the National Security operatives immediately disabled the CCTV system.
They then demanded that Dr. Addison lead them to the “vaults” in his house. According to Asaase Radio, the former Governor told them that he had no vaults or any such cache of cash at home.
However, this did not deter the security operatives, who allegedly proceeded to ransack the house, according to witnesses.
Sources from Asaase News indicate that no vaults or significant sums of money were discovered. The operatives eventually took the CCTV monitor and control device with them when their search yielded nothing.
A close friend of the Addison family informed Asaase News that Dr. Addison, his wife, and their entire family are traumatized as a result of the raid.
