Mahama Appoints New Director-General For Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono as the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), signalling the government’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s maritime sector with experienced leadership.

Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono, a decorated military officer and legal professional, currently serves as the Deputy Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies (NCDS) at Burma Camp in Accra. His appointment to the GPHA marks a significant transition in his distinguished career, which spans military service, legal practice, and international peacekeeping.

With a strong academic background, he holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution from the George Washington School of Law, a Master in Management Studies from Osmania University in India, and a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Ghana. He was called to the Ghanaian Bar in 2015, further enhancing his expertise in legal and administrative affairs.

His military training includes courses at renowned institutions such as the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK, the U.S. Army Command and Staff College, and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Ghana. These experiences have equipped him with extensive knowledge in strategic defence management and operational leadership.

Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono has held several key positions throughout his career, including Chief Coordinator at the NCDS, Assistant Commandant at the Training and Doctrine Command, and Deputy Director-General of Training at the Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters. His leadership has been defined by discipline, innovation, and a commitment to excellence.

On the international stage, he has played a crucial role in peacekeeping missions, serving as Deputy Force Provost Marshal and Officer in Charge of Special Investigations at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Headquarters. His expertise in managing complex security operations has earned him recognition in global defence and peacekeeping circles.

With a strong foundation in counterterrorism, strategic defence planning, and operational training, Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono is expected to bring invaluable experience to the GPHA. His leadership is anticipated to enhance the authority’s operational efficiency, drive innovation, and contribute to the growth of Ghana’s ports and harbours, which play a vital role in the country’s economy.

As he takes on this new role, stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact his leadership will have on the sector’s development.
