“Dampare sacked, and in just 3 days, a suspect has been arrested in the Ahmed Suale..”

According to a report from GhanaWeb, Henry Osei Akoto, a prominent figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced his astonishment over the recent arrest of a suspect linked to the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

He noted the timing of the arrest, which occurred shortly after the dismissal of former Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Osei Akoto questioned Dampare’s effectiveness during his time in office, raising concerns about the lack of progress in the investigation into Suale’s murder, which took place seven years ago.

The politician expressed curiosity about whether the recent developments were merely coincidental, emphasizing the swift action taken by the police following the leadership change.

“Dampare sacked, and in just 3 days, a suspect has been arrested in the Ahmed Suale murder case. What was Dampare doing for 3 and a half years?” he questioned.

He remarked on social media that the timing of the arrest seemed significant, highlighting the contrast with the previous years of inaction.

In addition to his comments, it was reported that the suspect, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Akwasi Amakye, allegedly shared Suale’s photographs with a Ghanaian politician before the murder.

A source from the Criminal Investigation Department indicated that a senior officer may be attempting to interfere with the investigation, advocating for the suspect to be released on bail instead of being arraigned in court.

This situation has reportedly caused tension within the police force, as investigators are determined to withstand any external pressure.

Amakye, a former associate of Suale at Tiger Eye Private Investigations, was arrested on March 17, 2025, after returning to Ghana from the UK, where he had fled following the murder. He was apprehended at a salon in Amasaman-Adease.
