The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) has successfully hosted two workshops designed to help businesses maximize the benefits of the UK-Ghana Trade Partnership Agreement (TPA).

Signed in March 2021, the TPA grants duty-free access to nearly all Ghanaian goods entering the UK, while approximately 80% of UK exports to Ghana will also enjoy duty-free status by 2029.

Speaking at the workshop, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, UK Trade Envoy to Ghana, emphasised the importance of the agreement in fostering economic growth.

“The UK-Ghana Trade Partnership Agreement provides a solid framework for businesses in both countries to thrive. By eliminating trade barriers and offering duty-free access, we are creating a more competitive and dynamic business environment. These workshops are a crucial step in ensuring that businesses fully understand and capitalize on the benefits available to them,” she stated.

Held in both Ghana and the United Kingdom, the workshops were organised on behalf of the UK’s Department for Business and Trade (DBT). They brought together government officials, industry experts, and trade professionals to provide businesses with practical guidance on navigating the agreement. Discussions covered key topics such as customs procedures, compliance requirements, UK trade policies, customs facilitation, and export standards.

Speakers included Bell Ribeiro-Addy, UK Trade Envoy to Ghana; Mawutor N. K. Alifo, Acting Head of Mission at the Ghana High Commission; Giselle Agyare, DBT Ghana Country Director; Daniel Owusu-Acheampong, Deputy Head of UK Trade Policy in Africa (AfCFTA Lead, DBT Africa); Lydie Sheehan, UK First Secretary and Agriculture, Food & Drink Attaché for Africa; and Victoria Allard, Regional Trade for Development Adviser for West & Central Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office/DBT.

The events also featured panel discussions and expert insights, highlighting the vast opportunities available under the TPA.

As trade relations between the UK and Ghana continue to grow, these workshops represent a crucial step toward enhancing economic cooperation. By equipping businesses with the necessary tools and knowledge, the initiative aims to drive trade expansion and investment opportunities for both nations.
