Guinness World Record sing-a-thon contender Afua Asantewaa has addressed recent controversy over a GH¢20,000 donation reportedly made by former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during her first sign-a-thon attempt.

Speaking on UTV, she clarified that her team only informed her about the donation this Saturday evening and emphasized that she did not personally receive the money.

“I was told just this evening that Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢20,000, but I did not receive the cash myself,” Asantewaa said when she spoke on UTV’s United .

“Dr. Bawumia personally gave me medicine for my sore throat. I don’t know who on my team received the money—some even claim my husband took it—but I am unaware of that. Nana Reagan and Socrate Safo mentioned that the donation was meant for the boys, so I’m not sure why I’m being linked with it.”

Her comments come after the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, reiterated that the former NPP flagbearer did indeed donate GH¢20,000 to support her sing-a-thon. This was after Afua Asantewaa said on Accra Fm that she didn’t receive any cash donation from Dr. Bawumia.

Despite the differing accounts, Afua Asantewaa maintained that she is grateful for the gesture of receiving medicine but wants to clarify that she did not benefit directly from the cash donation.
