“You Have No Idea What the NDC Did” – Martin Kpebu Rejects Claims That Police Secured 2024 Elections

Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has shed light on the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) approach in securing victory over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections as reported by Ghana Web.

He emphasized that the outcome was not solely due to the police under former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare but rather the vigilance of citizens.

Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight on March 13, 2025, Kpebu explained that the NDC implemented various measures to safeguard the electoral process.

“NDC had a lot of people trained. It’s not everything we can say here,” he remarked, suggesting that the party took deliberate steps beyond regular campaign activities.

He dismissed claims that the police played a decisive role in ensuring a fair election, insisting that the electorate’s preparedness was a major factor.

He further stated that security forces were aware of the potential consequences if there had been any attempts to manipulate the results.

Meanwhile, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has officially taken over as IGP following his appointment by President John Mahama on March 13, 2025.

A statement from the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the appointment, highlighting Yohuno’s four decades of experience in law enforcement.

Yohuno replaces Dr. Dampare, with expectations that he will lead reforms within the Ghana Police Service.

His appointment follows intense debate over the role of the police in the previous election and their perceived neutrality.
