The National Education Forum Committee has called on the Mahama administration to prioritize improving salary packages for teachers, particularly those in deprived communities.
The appeal comes as the Forum concludes a three-week stakeholder engagement focused on identifying challenges in the education sector and recommending effective reforms.
During the closing ceremony, the committee’s chairman, Prof. George K. T. Oduro, emphasized the need for better allowances to motivate teachers in their profession.
“Teacher motivation and welfare require enhancement. We recommend improvements in the provision of accommodation and allowances for teachers in deprived areas, while improving, generally, teachers’ salaries and welfare, including scholarships,” the committee proposed.
The Forum’s recommendations highlight the urgent need for policies that enhance teacher welfare, especially in underserved areas, to improve educational outcomes nationwide.
Meanwhile, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang firmly assured that the government will effectively consider the various proposals made during the forum to improve upon the country’s educational system.

“I wish to assure members of the committee and all of us that your recommendations will not gather dust on the shelf,” she assured.
The Vice president further raised concern on the stigma attached to TVET, condemning claims which suggest that students who undertake TVET are not academically inclined.
However, Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu revealed plans by the government to support education by implementing the National Research Fund.
He added that the Government has apportioned a percentage of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to support Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the country.
