IGP vows to uphold Police traditions and Mahama’s reset agenda

Newly sworn-in Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has pledged to lead the Ghana Police Service in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s “resetting agenda,” with a strong focus on discipline, professionalism, and public trust.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 14, 2025, marked a leadership transition in the Ghana Police Service following the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

In his acceptance speech, Yohuno reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the traditions and culture of the service while ensuring discipline and respect for hierarchy.

“I approach this responsibility with the utmost seriousness, fully recognising the weight of expectation accompanying this role. In alignment with the transformation and modernisation of the service, I pledge to uphold the values, traditions, and culture of the Ghana Police Service.

“Consistent with the rest of the agenda, Your Excellency, the President. In this regard, the guiding principle will include discipline and respect for seniority within the hierarchy structure of the service,” he stated.

Yohuno, who previously served as Deputy IGP, further assured that his leadership would prioritize discipline and professionalism while strengthening efforts to combat crime and enhance security across the country.
