Sam George Reacts After Okatakyie Afrifa Accused Him of Abruptly Shutting His Program Down

A fresh political controversy has erupted between the Minister for Communication and Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, and broadcaster Okatakyie Afrifa. The outspoken journalist recently alleged that the minister was responsible for abruptly shutting down his online program, a claim that has since drawn a sharp response from Sam George.

Afrifa, known for his bold takes on national issues, suggested that the MP had exercised his influence to stifle free speech by interfering with his platform. However, in a swift rebuttal, Sam George dismissed the allegations, stating that he has far more important priorities than concerning himself with such matters.

In a strongly worded statement, the minister expressed disbelief at the accusation, suggesting that his name was being dragged into unfounded controversies. He said:

“A certain Sam George seems to be more powerful than even he knows. Even when they constipate, they blame Sam George. The pain of defeat has clouded even logical minds to believe that I lose sleep over someone’s attempt to be relevant.”

Sam George further emphasized his focus on transforming Ghana’s digital landscape, indicating that his energies were channeled toward national development rather than media spats. He highlighted ongoing efforts to make Ghana’s digital ecosystem more inclusive and efficient, adding:

“I am focused on delivering a digitally inclusive and functional ecosystem for the people of Ghana. By the time you realise, we have reduced 38% to 14.5%.”

The MP ended his statement with a patriotic note, reaffirming his commitment to serving Ghana. “For God and Country,” he concluded.

While Afrifa has yet to provide concrete evidence to support his claims, the exchange has sparked debate among the public, with some questioning whether political figures wield excessive power over media freedom. Others argue that the controversy is merely a distraction from pressing national issues.

As the discussion unfolds, one thing is clear—Sam George remains firm in his stance, brushing off the allegations as baseless while keeping his sights set on his ministerial responsibilities. Whether this war of words will escalate or fizzle out remains to be seen, but for now, Ghanaians are watching closely.
