MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged the Minister of Finance to present the true state of Ghana’s economy on March 11, 2025, when delivering the 2025 budget.
He emphasized that economic data cannot be manipulated by any political class for political gain.
In anticipation of the budget reading, he stated, “The economic record of this country is not determined by the words of any politician. I believe the Finance Minister should resist any pressure from political forces to distort the numbers in an attempt to present a more favorable picture of Ghana’s economy than reality suggests.”
Oppong Nkrumah pointed out that relevant authorities regularly publish updates on the country’s economic performance, which should serve as the foundation for any economic discourse.
“I understand that this morning, they are working on the latest GDP figures. The Bank of Ghana and other state institutions continuously release economic data, and these should form the basis of discussions on the economy,” he was quoted as saying by myjoyonline.com.
He cautioned that misrepresenting Ghana’s economic status would not benefit the ordinary Ghanaian.
“If he does that, he will not be truthful to the country’s economic record. What we need is honesty about the economy so we can build on the progress made so far,” he concluded.
