Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has made an important statement about former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
In a social media post on International Women’s Day, he praised her contributions to women’s empowerment in Ghana.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, March 8, 2025, Anyidoho spoke about Nana Konadu’s role in advocating for Ghanaian women on the international stage. He specifically mentioned her leadership at the United Nations’ Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing 30 years ago.
He wrote, “On this International Women’s Day, as a Ghanaian nationalist, I can’t walk through the day without saluting Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and how she led the crusade on behalf of Ghanaian women in Beijing 30 years ago. Ayekoo to ALL women who continue to keep the flame alight.”
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, is known for her strong advocacy for women’s rights in Ghana. She played a key role in pushing for policies that promoted gender equality and the empowerment of women. Through her leadership in the 31st December Women’s Movement, she worked to improve the lives of women, especially in rural areas, by promoting education, entrepreneurship, and political participation.
Anyidoho’s statement comes at a time when Ghana joins the world in celebrating the achievements of women. His recognition of Nana Konadu’s efforts serves as a reminder of the significant contributions women have made and continue to make in shaping the country’s development.
