Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been embroiled in multiple controversies that have significantly impacted his political trajectory. Three key incidents include:
1. Allegations Against President Mahama: In February 2025, Abronye DC accused President John Dramani Mahama of withholding GH₵550 million meant for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House. This claim led to his invitation by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to provide evidence. Abronye, however, questioned the agency’s impartiality, stating, “I cannot be intimidated by any state security agency. I am not one of those who run away from accountability.”
2. Inciting Violence Before Elections: Ahead of the 2024 general elections, Abronye DC encouraged NPP supporters to retaliate against any perceived aggression from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He declared, “If you fire a gun, I will fire a gun,” advocating for an “eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” response. His remarks fueled concerns over possible electoral violence and were widely condemned.
3. Criticism from Political Figures: Abronye DC’s statements and actions have drawn criticism from several political figures. Notably, the Bono Regional branch of the NDC refused to respond to his allegations, with their Regional Director of Communications stating, “He [Abronye] is not in the category of persons, as a party, we will take the pain to respond to.”
