Old Photo Of NAPO’s Biological Father Causes A Stir On Social Media

One of Ghana’s prominent media stations, Metro TV, recently shared photos of the biological father of Honourable Matthew Opoku Prempeh on social media. The post highlighted a significant moment in history when Opoku Prempeh’s father, Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, took an oath of allegiance as a teenager upon becoming the Apagyahene. The caption from Metro TV read, “NAPO’s father, Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, took the oath of allegiance to his father, Asantehene Osei Agyemang Prempeh II, becoming Apagyahene at just 17 years old.”
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO in Ghanaian politics, is a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He served as Ghana’s Minister for Education from 2017 to 2021 under the leadership of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. During his tenure, NAPO played a pivotal role in implementing the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which aimed to provide free secondary education to all Ghanaian students. He also spearheaded various education reforms, including the introduction of a new curriculum and the expansion of technical and vocational education. Additionally, he initiated numerous infrastructure projects, such as the construction of new schools, dormitories, and other educational facilities.
Before his appointment as Education Minister, NAPO served as the Member of Parliament for the Manhyia South constituency in Kumasi. Most recently, he was the presidential running mate to His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on the NPP ticket.
