The Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah, has accused the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of resetting the country in a negative direction.

During his inauguration on January 7, 2025, President John Mahama outlined four key areas of focus to drive his “Reset Ghana” agenda. He highlighted economic restoration and stabilization, improvement of the business and investment environment, governance and constitutional reforms, and accountability in the fight against corruption as his main priorities.

While some have commended the president for constituting a lean government to reduce the cost of running state affairs, critics have condemned certain decisions, including the annulment of all public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024. This decision has affected many professionals, including teachers.

Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV, Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah, a former Minister of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, emphasized that the Mahama government’s resetting agenda will negatively impact Ghanaians in many ways.

“What gives you the slightest hope that this reset agenda will have a positive impact? I want to speak to you in practical terms. We are resetting for people to lose their jobs. With this reset agenda, the costs previously borne by the government at the SHS level will now be borne by parents in one way or another. That is the end result.”

He continued: “With this reset, allowances that were enjoyed by teachers and nurses will be withdrawn. Whatever benefits they had, they are now back to square one. At the JHS level, the cost previously covered by the government for the BECE has now been removed, meaning parents will have to bear that expense. So, there are practical disadvantages that people will have to endure with this resetting agenda. We are resetting in the negative.”
