WAANSA Ghana congratulates Dr. Adam Bonaa on appointment as Acting Executive Secretary of National Small Arms Commission

The West Africa Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA Ghana) has extended its congratulations to Dr. Adam Bonaa on his appointment as the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons by President John Dramani Mahama.

WAANSA Ghana President, Ken Kinney, described Dr. Bonaa’s elevation as a recognition of his dedication and expertise in national security and development, as well as his longstanding role as a Civil Society Organization (CSO) representative on the commission.

“Your appointment to this esteemed position is a testament to your unwavering commitment to strengthening internal security. WAANSA Ghana fully supports you in your efforts to ensure the passage of the National Small Arms Commission Bill, 2023,” Kinney stated.

He highlighted Dr. Bonaa’s active participation in WAANSA Ghana’s leadership and emphasized his crucial role in tackling Ghana’s growing security challenges.

“As a civil society organization focused on security matters, WAANSA Ghana assures you of its solid support in your new role.

“We look forward to enhanced collaboration with the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons and other key state institutions within Ghana and the broader West African region,” Kinney added.

Expressing appreciation to President Mahama, he acknowledged the government’s recognition of civil society’s efforts in combating the illicit proliferation of arms in Ghana.

“Dr. Bonaa has been a strong advocate for the National Small Arms Commission Bill, 2023, and has represented CSOs on the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons.

His experience in both civil society and government is an asset that will help accelerate the passage of the bill, ensuring tighter control over illicit arms in Ghana and the ECOWAS region,” Kinney noted.
