ASA Savings and Loans, a leading financial institution in its quest to champion climate protection, has partnered with the volunteer group, Buzstopboys to promote environmental sustainability.
The maiden edition took place at St. Justin Anglican Basic School at Ablekuma and Dansoman ‘2’ Basic School, and was on the topic ’ Climate Protection’.
The leader of the Buzstopboys, Heneba Kwadwo Safo spoke to the school populace extensively on the proper disposal of waste, particularly plastics. He disclosed that plastics, when properly sorted from other general waste, can be recycled and used for other purposes. He entreated the pupils on the need to patronize environmentally-friendly goods, and encouraged them to practice personal hygiene.
The Sustainability manager of ASA, Richard Nartey, revealed the reason the school populace was targeted for this campaign.
“We as a corporate body appreciate the amount of waste generated by the younger generation and we firmly believe that when they are made aware of climate protection at a youthful age, it makes the problems associated with waste much resolved.”
He highlighted the importance of trees during his time, to talk to the students, donated a bottle-like plastic waste collector to encourage them to do the right thing, and demonstrated to them how it is used.
In all, over 400 pupils participated in the educative session, and the pupils were given time to ask questions with answers provided by the facilitators.
