I find it intriguing that only Accra-based filmmakers are being appointed by Mahama- P.K Sarpong

Popular commentator affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party P.K Sarpong has accused President John Dramani Mahama of neglecting Kumasi-based filmmakers in his appointments despite campaigning for him in the December 7 presidential election.

According to him, the President has favoured the Accra-based filmmakers in his appointments, neglecting those from Kumawood. In a Facebook post, the popular writer pointed out that most of the Accra filmmakers did actively engage in campaign activities for John Dramani Mahama, but he has still chosen them ahead of the Kumasi-based stars who hit the roads for Mahama in the crucial polls.

His comment comes after John Dramani Mahama appointed James Gardiner as the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority and Kafui Danku as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority.

In his opinion, the National Democratic Congress-affiliated movie stars deserve a spot in the John Dramani Mahama-led administration due to their relentless efforts in the lead-up to the presidential and parliamentary elections, stressing that he finds it intriguing that none has been appointed so far.

“I find it quite intriguing that only Accra-based filmmakers and actors are being appointed by President John Dramani Mahama.

The Kumasi-based ones, those who call themselves Kumawood stars, are being given a raw deal by the President.

It simply means that those in the Kumawood circles are not valued by the NDC and their president. They are seen to be somewhat worthless.

Most of these Accra-based entertainment industry players were never seen on the grounds campaigning for the NDC,” his post reads in part.
