President Mahama Calls for Talks with Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings After Cabinet Backlash

President John Dramani Mahama has personally asked Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the MP for Klottey Korle Constituency, to reach out to him for a chat after delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
As the president mingled with MPs following his speech, he specifically told Dr. Zanetor to give him a call. While the reason behind this request isn’t clear yet, it comes amid some controversy over the composition of his Cabinet. The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, had earlier criticized Mahama for appointing only two women out of 19 Cabinet ministers, which amounts to just 10%. Afenyo-Markin pointed out that qualified women like Zanetor Rawlings and Helen Ntorsu were overlooked despite their hard work and capabilities.
Interestingly, there were rumors that Zanetor Rawlings might have been considered for the Health Minister position, but Kwabena Mintah Akandoh was eventually chosen instead. However, she hasn’t been completely left out—she’s been nominated as a Minister of State for the Ministry of Health in President Mahama’s third batch of ministerial picks.
This invitation to chat could be about her potential role in the government or something else entirely. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what this meeting might be all about!
