Police boost security at Christian Methodist School after students clashed with local youth

The Ghana Police Service has taken control of security at Christian Methodist School in New Aplaku, Weija, in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, February 28, following a violent clash between students and local youth over a stolen phone.

A heavy police presence remains at the school amid fears of reprisal attacks.

To ensure students’ safety, the police have evacuated them in batches using police vehicles. The operation aims to transport students safely while preventing further disturbances.

Two people, including a student, were reportedly injured during the clashes.

Meanwhile, the Headmaster is meeting with the Regional Education Director to discuss reinforcement measures.

ASP Godfred Bampoe, Officer at the Weija SCC Police Station, addressed the students, outlining the evacuation process.

“We are going to move the females first. We will escort you to the roadside, from where you will board vehicles to your destinations. The evacuation will be in three batches, with 10 students per line under police escort. Do not leave the line just stay calm so you can safely reach your homes,” he assured.
