My office faces attacks from those under investigation – OSP

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has stated that it is facing relentless attacks from individuals and groups currently under investigation or prosecution.

Since its inception, some have deemed the OSP redundant, arguing that it has failed to fulfill its mandate and serves no useful purpose in the country’s fight against corruption. This has led to calls for its outright dissolution.

However, speaking at the 5th Annual Constitution Day Public Lecture on Friday, February 28, 2025, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, stated that while it is open to discussions on its dissolution, its leaders are facing unfair and unjust criticism.

“There have been, and continue to be, attempts to discredit the office and its principal officers unfairly and unjustly, met with formidable resistance and pushback,” the Special Prosecutor said.

He further said that many of these attacks come from individuals under investigation, who seek to undermine the office to evade accountability.

“Often, the attacks on the office and its principal officers are mounted by persons who find themselves on the receiving end of an investigation or prosecution, as well as their associates,” he added.

In 2021, former President Akufo-Addo officially swore Kissi Agyebeng into office as the Special Prosecutor.

The 47-year-old lawyer succeeded Martin Amidu, who resigned in November 2020.
