The Truth Behind His Death, Not Food Poisoning

In a deeply personal revelation, Apostle Lilian Kumah, widow of the late Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah, has addressed the rumours surrounding his untimely death. In an exclusive interview with Asaase News, she firmly denied claims that her husband died from food poisoning, revealing instead that he passed away after battling a terminal illness for over a year.

Apostle Kumah shared that her husband was diagnosed with a blood-related illness during a medical examination in Germany in mid-2023. From that point, his health gradually deteriorated, despite receiving treatment both in Ghana and abroad. She stressed that no medical report from Ghana or Germany ever indicated food poisoning as a cause of his condition, firmly refuting the rumours circulated by some media outlets. She expressed her anguish and frustration over the baseless allegations, particularly those made by media personality Captain Smart, who publicly claimed that John Kumah had been poisoned.

“I don’t understand why anyone would make such harmful claims about my husband without any evidence,” she said. “These accusations have caused my family immense pain, and I urge the authorities to hold those spreading these falsehoods accountable.”

Apostle Kumah called for an end to the speculation, asking the public to respect her family’s grief and honour the late MP’s memory. She also highlighted her husband’s dedication to his work, even as he struggled with his illness.

John Kumah passed away on March 7, 2024, at the Suhum Government Hospital. He had been travelling to Accra for further medical treatment when his condition suddenly worsened. Despite doctors’ efforts, he could not be stabilised.

In her emotional plea, Mrs. Kumah emphasised the importance of preserving her husband’s legacy with truth and dignity. She remains committed to honouring his memory and ensuring that the facts surrounding his passing are respected and upheld.
