According to GhanaWeb, three suspected bandits from the Mamprusi community have been arrested by police in the North East Region for terrorizing locals during daylight. The suspects, Alhassan Sulemana, 32, Ibrahim Yakubu, 28, and Baba Mohammed, 30, were apprehended in Walewale Township during a security operation on Monday afternoon.
The suspects are part of a gang responsible for a series of robberies, extortion, and attacks targeting traders, motorists, and farmers. They often struck during the day, creating fear among residents.Â
The arrests followed a distress call from Walewale Market, where the suspects, armed with machetes, threatened traders for money. Police, who had been monitoring the gang, arrived and quickly captured the suspects after a brief chase.Â
Two machetes, a homemade pistol, and stolen cash were recovered. Local leaders praised the police for restoring peace to the community. The suspects are now in custody, facing charges of robbery, assault, and illegal weapons possession. Increased patrols have been implemented to ensure safety, and the public is urged to stay alert. The suspects are set to appear in court next week.
