“I should apologize to Ghanaians that I stopped the National Cathedral project?” : Sammy Ablakwa

In a fiery revelation on TV3’s Key Points, newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sammy Ablakwa, firmly denied claims of any pre-vetting agreement with the minority leader. Sammy expressed disbelief at the assertions, labelling them as a “complete falsehood.”

The minister clarified that there was never any discussion or agreement requiring him to apologise for his past positions on national issues. He challenged the notion, asking why he should apologise for exposing corruption, halting the National Cathedral project, or uncovering questionable land deals.

“Should I apologise to Ghanaians for stopping the National Cathedral project, which would have wasted over $400 million?” Sammy asked rhetorically. He pointed out that $58 million had already been spent on the project, yet all that remained was “a pit.”

Sammy also highlighted how lands intended for agricultural development were being sold at unusually low prices to government officials, while legitimate investors were being charged exorbitant amounts.

Furthermore, he exposed the alarming practice of rebranding and distributing expired food products to children, emphasising that he could not stay silent in the face of such injustices.

Refuting the allegations against him, Sammy stated that the only interaction he had with the minority leader occurred when he was questioned during the vetting of another ministerial nominee. He also raised concerns about how private NDC caucus discussions were leaked, questioning the loyalty within the party.

His bold defence on national television has ignited widespread debate, with many applauding his commitment to accountability and transparency in governance.
