I never thought Mahama would be president again – Annor-Dompreh

The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annor-Dompreh has revealed that he never thought President John Dramani Mahama would return to power as president of Ghana.

The Minority Chief Whip in an interview on Accra-based Starr FM shared that his doubts were influenced by the public’s perception of Mr Mahama.

“I never believed, I never thought President Mahama would be President again, and I have eaten my humble pie because of the margin by which he won. I realised that God can do anything. Because of what I was seeing in the country and the feedback I was getting,” he disclosed

He further attributed his belief to the negative feedback he had been receiving from people who analysed Mahama’s previous leadership a president.

“People said that, well, for what he did and for what we have known him for, it’s not a risk we would want to take. That is why I am saying you should never say never,” Mr Dompreh stated.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh also expressed his support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the next presidential election.

He emphasised that it would be unfair not to offer Dr Bawumia a second chance.

While he respects former Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, Mr Annoh-Dompreh said he would still back Dr Bawumia to take the lead for the NPP.

“I respect Kennedy Agyapong. He is a good man and a true blue-party person, but I will still support Dr Bawumia for the presidency. I think it would be most unfair to leave Dr Bawumia because, in our tradition, nobody has won the presidency at once.

The Minority Chief Whip pointed out that no past president has secured the top office on their first attempt.

“President Akufo-Addo himself three times, President Kufuor himself two times, so I think it will be most unfair, but I respect Kennedy Agyapong,” he noted.
