PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana, in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Ghana, successfully organized a transformative three-day programme titled “Advancing Girls’ Rights Through Technology.”

The event, designed to empower young girls aged 16 to 24, provided essential tools and knowledge to protect themselves in the digital age while promoting their human rights.

The programme’s primary focus was to educate the participants about fundamental human rights, with an emphasis on how these rights affect daily life.

A key topic was domestic violence, a significant challenge faced by many young women in Ghana. By equipping participants with crucial knowledge, the program aimed to foster a supportive community where these girls could advocate for themselves and others.

During the event, Yakubu Fuseni, CEO of PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana, expressed his belief in the potential of the program to transform the lives of young girls in the country.

He encouraged participants to take the training seriously, as the skills they acquired could not only shape their futures but also help uplift others in their communities.

Dr. Kiromiddin Gulov, a Public Health Expert and Gender Advocate, emphasized the importance of digital empowerment and responsible technology use.

He discussed how technology can be harnessed to foster self-development and ensure safety in the digital space.

Dr. Gulov also highlighted the significance of using technology as a tool for personal growth, particularly for young women striving to assert their rights and enhance their well-being.

The programme also introduced participants to a wide array of online platforms that can contribute to skill-building and self-improvement.

Platforms like Udemy, ChatGPT, Coursera, and Duolingo were presented as valuable resources to help young girls develop new skills, pursue further education, and gain knowledge in various fields. Furthermore, participants were encouraged to be mindful of their online presence and build positive digital footprints, which can offer long-term personal and professional benefits.

Her Excellency Simone Giger, Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana, praised the girls for their enthusiasm and dedication throughout the programme.

During an interview, she encouraged the participants to use their newly acquired knowledge wisely, not only for their personal growth but also to contribute meaningfully to their communities. She noted that the skills learned during the program have the potential to make a lasting impact on both the girls’ lives and the wider society.

The “Advancing Girls’ Rights Through Technology” programme concluded as a major success, leaving the participants with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves from various digital and social challenges, including cyberbullying and online safety.

By addressing critical issues such as human rights, domestic violence, and the responsible use of technology, the programme empowered these young girls to become ambassadors of change in their communities.
