Ghanaian media personality Captain Smart has shown his full support for John Dumelo’s recent appointment as the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture. On February 5, 2025, Captain Smart took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his endorsement with the simple but heartfelt statement, “Well deserved.”
Dumelo’s appointment was officially announced by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, on the same day. The actor-turned-politician, who is currently the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra Region, now has the responsibility of supporting Ghana’s agricultural development in his new ministerial position.
Born on February 3, 1984, John Dumelo has had a diverse and successful career. After completing his basic education at Christ the King School in Accra, he attended Achimota School and later studied Civil Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He furthered his studies in Public Service and Governance at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Though he rose to fame through his acting career, with his notable role in the 1992 film Baby Thief, Dumelo has increasingly become a passionate advocate for agriculture.
His involvement in both crop and animal farming is well known, and he regularly encourages the youth of Ghana to pursue agriculture as a viable and rewarding career. Dumelo’s background and hands-on experience in farming make him a strong fit for his new role, and many, including Captain Smart, believe he is well-positioned to help further advance Ghana’s agricultural sector. His appointment is seen as a promising step toward fostering agricultural growth and empowering the younger generation to engage in this vital sector.
