Army Combat Training School introduces course patrons, mentors interactions for impact

By Ewoenam Kpodo

Denu (VR), Feb 7, GNA- The Army Combat Training School (ACTS) has introduced into its curricular societal/industrial leaders’ mentorship session aimed at enhancing the students’ leadership skills, interpersonal relations and social networking.

This novel leadership and mentorship interactive class is reserved for retired generals, senior officers, the school’s sponsors, friends and patrons with modeled emulative personalities and high morals to engage the students (officers and soldiers).

Lt Col Martin Dziedzorm Dey, acting Chief Instructor, ACTS, in an interview with Ghana News Agency following the maiden interactive session on Wednesday, February 5, explained the leadership of the school took the decision to introduce course patrons and mentors’ interactions for its courses in the interest of the students and the larger Ghanaian public.

“This is aimed at impacting the junior leadership acumen of the students and further exposing them to a wider social networking domain, reason the patrons are industry and social leaders in their fields of endeavour.

The purpose is to widen the scope of the young officers and soldiers early enough in their career progressions within the military and beyond,” he said.

Lt Col Dey said Mr Bernard Kwaku Sackitey, a health and safety superintendent at ENI Ghana Exploration and Production Limited and President of Worldwide Evangelism Service, who is a course patron for YOC 1 – 25 had a successful interaction with the students.

“Mr Sackitey delivered the keynote presentation on Leadership and Mentorship to the students where he shared practical experiences on life trajectory to self-sustainment and societal leadership.

He toured the school’s ongoing project sites and thereafter provided support to initiate solutions to some challenges of the school. Apart from being a patron, he agreed to serve as an ambassador and development partner to help attract social support among others to the school.”

Present at the keynote presentation was Col Robert Narh, the Commander, ACTS who took part extensively in the interactive session and made contributions, and Lt Col Joshua Adongo, the Course Commander, ACTS.

The ACTS, one of the Ghana Armed Forces’ institutions of learning designated to train personnel within the framework of security arts and science to maintain/restore law and order, runs six courses concurrently within a semester with capacity to train over 350 serving personnel.

It has commenced its first semester courses with Combat Team Commanders Course (CTCC 1-25), Young Officers Course (YOC 1-25), Advanced Non-Commissioned Tactical Course (ANTC 1-25) with students of advanced courses for Mortar, All Infantry Platoon Weapons, Machine Gun and Drill and Duties expected to assemble within the period.
