‘Vetting chaos committee’ will resume work on February 7

Emmanuel Bedzrah, Chairman of the Parliamentary ad-hoc committee investigating the vetting chaos at the Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025, has announced that the committee will resume its public hearing on Friday, February 7, 2025.

This comes after the abrupt suspension of proceedings during the hearing on Wednesday, February 5. Initially, the suspension was attributed to a directive from Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.

However, it was later clarified that the Speaker was unaware of the decision, which instead came from the Clerk of Parliament.

Speaking on Joy FM on Thursday, February 6, the Ho West MP confirmed that Speaker Bagbin has now directed the committee to continue its work.

“I need to meet with my committee members this morning. We agreed to have a meeting at 3 O’clock by then I would have received some information from the speaker. So, for today, there won’t be any public hearings. We will continue tomorrow [Friday, February 7].

“…The speaker called and said, ‘No, we cannot stop this work, we should continue, and he has given direct instruction to the clerk that we should continue,” he stated.
