Two more suspects arrested over Nsoatreman-Kotoko match violence

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two additional suspects in connection with the violent clashes that erupted during the football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC.

The suspects, identified as Isaac Ofosu and Yeboah Augustine, are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Their arrest brings the total number of suspects detained in connection with the incident to five.

Authorities have assured the public that intelligence-led operations are still underway to apprehend all individuals responsible for the violence and ensure they face justice.

The incident, which occurred on February 2, 2025, resulted in the tragic death of an Asante Kotoko supporter. The club confirmed the passing of the fan following violent confrontations after their Ghana Premier League Matchday 19 encounter against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koramansah Park.

Tensions flared as Nsoatreman FC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Kotoko. What began as heated exchanges between players on the field quickly escalated, leading the referee to issue four red cards. The situation worsened after the final whistle, with rival supporters engaging in violent clashes.

The police remain committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice while calling for calm as investigations continue.
