The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has stated that the newly appointed minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, will not be able to meet the high standards set by his predecessor, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

According to Yandoh, Iddrisu’s appointment will lead to failure as the education sector faces potential collapse due to certain policies the government plans to implement.

He claimed that these policies would lead to deterioration in the sector, ultimately discrediting the new minister.

He further highlighted speculations regarding the cancellation of teacher trainee allowances, arguing that such a move would not be beneficial. Additionally, he pointed out that the feeding of Senior High School (SHS) students is gradually becoming a challenge, raising concerns about the sustainability of the programme.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on February 4, 2025, Yandoh said, “They sent Haruna Iddrisu to the Education Ministry to disgrace him. You will see that due to the remarkable improvements brought to the sector by Dr. Adutwum, the whole world recognized Ghana’s progress in education.

“Look at the advancements in STEM education and the impressive projects students are undertaking, including motion detectors, planes, ships, and more. However, student feeding is becoming a major issue, and they no longer have any hope. Now, teachers are the target. They just want to destroy the school system. The government intends to scrap teacher allowances, leaving them struggling financially.”
