Phase 1 of Olympafrica project completed – GOC President

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) is making significant strides in developing sports infrastructure through the Olympafrica Project at Amasaman.

As of January 2025, the first phase of the project has been completed, featuring a basketball/volleyball court, a tennis court, and a standard football field with running tracks, per GOC President, Ben Nunoo Mensah.

The project, funded by a $100,000 grant from the Olympafrica Foundation, aims to create a hub for athlete development and community engagement.

Architectural designs, site preparation, and court constructions have been successfully executed, with $79,161 spent so far.

According to GOC President Ben Nunoo Mensah, preparations for the second phase, which includes a multipurpose sports hall, are in advanced stages, pending a building permit from the Ga North Municipal Assembly.

He also revealed that Jamaican Olympian Asafa Powell has pledged to help secure tartan tracks for the project.

“This project is a testament to our commitment to developing sports infrastructure in Ghana. We are working tirelessly to ensure athletes have access to world-class facilities,” Mr. Nunoo Mensah stated.
