Sandra Esinam, a former employee of Media General, has sent a message to host of Onua Maakye show on Onua TV, Captain Smart.
Also, in her message, she voiced out her disappointment in Captain Smart and also with the network. In a heartfelt statement posted on her Facebook page, Sandra expressed concern about the decline in the quality of content aired by the media house, which she once held in high regard.
According to her, Media General, known for its strong journalistic standards in the past, is now being used to promote questionable content that lacks intellectual depth. She specifically criticized certain presenters for spreading hate speech and ideas she described as baseless. While acknowledging the growing competition in the media industry, especially with the rise of bloggers and social media influencers, Sandra urged Media General to prioritize the nation’s interests over sensationalism. She posted the video for Captain Smart making statements about the Ashanti Gold incident.
She further criticized the leadership of the network, suggesting that the Group CEO appears more focused on receiving awards and accolades rather than upholding journalistic integrity. “It’s disheartening to see such a respected institution prioritize recognition over responsible broadcasting,” she lamented.
Sandra noted that this trend reflects a larger problem in the country, where mediocrity is often celebrated over merit. She called on Media General to return to its roots of promoting responsible and informative journalism, as its current trajectory is a disservice to both the media industry and the nation.
