Ghana Announces Public Holidays and Commemorative Days for 2025

The Ministry of the Interior has released the official list of statutory public holidays and commemorative days for the Republic of Ghana in 2025, providing citizens with the dates for national celebrations and observances. The announcement details both public holidays, which will be observed with a day off work, and commemorative days, which are recognized but do not entail a work holiday.

The statutory public holidays for 2025 include:

1. New Year’s Day: January 1 (Wednesday)

2. Constitution Day: January 7 (Tuesday)

3. Independence Day: March 6 (Thursday)

4. Good Friday: April 18 (Friday)

5. Easter Monday: April 21 (Monday)

6. May Day (Workers’ Day): May 1 (Thursday)

7. Founders’ Day: August 4 (Monday)

8. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day: September 21 (Sunday)

9. Farmers’ Day: December 5 (Friday)

10. Christmas Day: December 25 (Thursday)

11. Boxing Day: December 26 (Friday)

It is important to note that the dates for Eid-Ul-Fitr and Eid-Ul-Adha are not fixed, as they are movable feasts. The specific dates for these holidays will be announced by the Office of the Chief Imam later in the year.

In addition to the public holidays, the following days will be recognized as commemorative days:

African Union Day: May 25 (Sunday)

Republic Day: July 1 (Tuesday)

Commemorative days are not observed as public holidays. The Ministry of the Interior’s announcement is meant to help Ghanaians plan ahead for the coming year while also recognizing the cultural and national holidays throughout the year.
