Kojo Yankah, a former Member of Parliament for Agona East, has urged government officials to prioritize national unity over partisan interests
According to MyNewsGH on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on January 2, he emphasized the need for appointees to represent all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
Yankah expressed concern about the growing trend of public officials identifying themselves primarily by their party allegiance, which he believes undermines their responsibility to serve the entire population.
“When you go to a district or region as the president’s representative, the whole region is your responsibility,” he said.
He criticized the focus on party matters by some government representatives, urging them to leave political activities to party structures while dedicating their efforts to fostering development and inclusiveness.
Yankah highlighted that prioritizing unity and collaboration is essential for national progress.
“As a Ghanaian privileged to serve in a region, your principal duty should be to bring everyone together,” he added, calling for a governance approach that transcends political boundaries.
Yankah’s comments shows his long-standing advocacy for cohesion in governance, particularly in regions where appointees are often seen as serving party interests instead of the collective good.
His remarks are a call to action for public officials to embrace a mindset that unites communities, ensuring that all citizens benefit equally from government initiatives.
By urging leaders to rise above political divisions, Yankah reaffirms the importance of inclusive governance as a cornerstone for Ghana’s growth and stability.
