Some residents of Assin Central Constituency have taken to social media to express their disappointment in their Member of Parliament, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong. Despite serving as MP for the past 24 years, constituents say that little has been done to improve the area’s deteriorating roads. In a video posted online, they showed the deplorable state of the roads, filled with potholes and muddy water, which they say has been a long-standing issue for the community.
One resident shared, “This is the state of roads in Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s constituency. Look at how bad the roads are. Drivers charge us huge amounts to transport our goods to the market. We are really suffering; we have voted for him since 2000, but still, there is no improvement.”
For farmers and traders in the area, these roads are crucial, as they serve as the main routes to transport agricultural products to local markets. However, due to the poor road conditions, many drivers either refuse to travel on them or charge exorbitant fees, making it harder for farmers to make a living. “This road is what we use to carry our farm products, yet every day it’s a struggle. We can’t afford these high transportation costs,” another local said.
Beyond the issue of the roads, some constituents voiced concerns about Agyapong’s connection to the community. They claim that he seldom visits and rarely expresses gratitude for their continued support. “Kennedy Agyapong won’t even come and thank us after we vote for him. He just stays in Accra, while we continue to suffer here,” one resident lamented.
The backlash has sparked debate on social media, with many questioning whether Agyapong’s appeal in the media is what keeps him in office. “It seems people vote for him because of his popularity, not because of the development he brings,” one comment read. Others argued that 24 years in office should be more than enough time to make significant changes, urging the community to consider other options in the next election if they don’t see improvements soon.
As frustrations mount, residents of Assin Central are calling for accountability, hoping that their concerns will be addressed, and the roads that are vital to their livelihoods will finally receive the attention they deserve.
