Jean Mensa Explains What Happened to the Missing Pink Sheet in Dome-Kwabenya

The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, as the Member of Parliament-elect for Dome-Kwabenya.

According to a report by TV3 News, this announcement, made on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, ends months of disputes between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the constituency’s election results.

Speaking at a press briefing, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the collation process faced several challenges, including the destruction of materials and missing pink sheets. She detailed how the collation center was disrupted on election night when party supporters stormed the venue, halting the process.

Efforts to finalize the collation began on December 21 but were delayed due to three missing pink sheets. After further attempts, the EC resolved the issue by re-running elections at the Abokobi Women’s Training Centre, where a key pink sheet was unaccounted for.

Mensa revealed that the presiding officer at the center mistakenly used a presidential training pink sheet, which was rejected by the EC. Despite this, party agents confirmed the figures from their tally sheets, which matched the Commission’s records.

The EC eventually located the presiding officer, who explained the circumstances leading to the use of the training sheet. With input from both NDC and NPP agents, the EC was able to verify the results and conclude the collation process.

Mensa assured Ghanaians that the outcome reflects the will of the people.

“So today, the Commission is pleased to note that it has brought proceedings and collations at the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency to a close. It has gone full circle and we are convinced without a shadow of doubt that the outcome reflects the will of the people as expressed at the polls”, she stated.
