Newton-Offei Justice Abeeku, a presidential staffer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has attributed the party’s electoral defeat not to underperformance but to arrogance, which he claims fostered resentment among party members and sympathizers.
In a Facebook post, he stated:
“Looking at the NDC’s figures from the 2020 and 2024 elections, it’s clear they didn’t make significant gains. Instead, it’s NPP sympathizers who chose not to vote.
The reason is simple: the obscene arrogance of power and the inexplicable pride displayed by many of those the President trusted with key positions.
This crushing defeat isn’t because we failed as a government to deliver but because of the internally-generated hatred caused by arrogance.”
He added that national-level party officials must also be scrutinized for their roles in what he described as “acts of omission or commission.” Newton-Offei emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing this issue to prevent it from further damaging the party’s reputation.
“This malignant cancer, which has gained notoriety within the NPP over time, must be diagnosed and treated,” he urged.
He concluded by highlighting the cultural values of Ghanaians, stating that they are drawn to leaders with humility and despise haughtiness. “How can you do politics with pride?” he asked, stressing the need for a shift in the party’s approach to leadership and engagement.
