Ekumfi Juice workers appeal for continuation of initiative

Workers at Ekumfi Fruits and Juices have appealed to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to help expand the factory’s capacity to produce more raw materials for production. They mentioned that although they were not satisfied with their payments, the factory employed many people within the Ekumfi enclave, reducing the rate of unemployment.

They thanked the President-Elect for appreciating and acknowledging Eku Juice during his Thanksgiving service after his victory. Expressing gratitude to outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the initiative, they pleaded for more financial assistance from the incoming government to help meet the market demands of the country and beyond.

“IDIF has helped me support my two children at the senior high school level, and I’m doing well as a mother in my field of work. We’re pleading with the NDC to continue the project and support the factory to help employ more young people to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country,” disclosed Maame Ama Amissah, a worker and resident of EKUMFI.

The Ekumfi factory was operating under capacity due to financial difficulties affecting their production. According to Kankam Biney, Chief Agronomist of the factory, it had the capacity to produce more than 9,000 units daily, but due to a low workforce, it produced only 1,500 units. This shortage of raw materials often caused a shortage of juice in the market, which the company could address with financial assistance.

Biney mentioned that the 24-hour economy would be timely since the factory had plans to implement the initiative to increase raw material supplies for production. He appealed to the President-elect to consider 1D1F projects and support them financially to boost their production and increase their capacity.

The factory had a low workforce of 700, including out-growers, in-growers, and share-growers, due to financial constraints. They had pursued loans from banks for about three years without success and called on the President-elect to intervene after being sworn in.

Field Manager Rockson Atanga revealed that the factory had vast land for providing raw materials to feed the factory but was left untouched due to financial constraints. He appealed for support from the President-Elect to help expand the factory for development.
