Some Kumawood movie actors have explained why they campaigned for President-elect John Mahama in the recently concluded elections.
According to Big Akwess, Christiana Awuni, and Okomfo Kolege, their motivation for rallying against the Akufo-Addo administration sprang from unmet pledges to create long-term solutions to the film industry’s difficulties.
They made these findings during their appearance on Friday, December 13, 2024.
“People believe we came out to support the NDC for selfish reasons, but this is not true. “We did this for Ghana,” she informed Doreen Avio.
Adorned in a print of National Democratic Congress (NDC) insignia, actress Christiana Awuni said that she was celebrating John Mahama’s victory, a sentiment that Big Akwess echoed.
hristiana Awuni explained that the Creative Arts Industry is more than just entertainment, and she used her platform to advocate for change.
She added that they launched a campaign for a better government for Ghana and for Ghanaian youth in the creative arts business to alleviate the suffering that exists.
Big Akwess, an actor, contributed to the discourse by recounting a meeting in August 2015 at which President Nana Akufo-Addo vowed to alleviate the plights of the Kumawood sector.
Big Akwess listed three expectations that the NPP government failed to meet: the need for a film industry with a cinema, the passage of a measure to limit the excessive promotion of imported telenovelas over local talent, and the establishment of a film town.
He stated fiercely, “He has frustrated us. “He said it, but never did it.”
The actor went on to say that they told John Mahama of their plight and have his approval to move forward with development.
Actor Okomfo Kolege added to the discourse, expressing his hope that the business will continue to develop for the good of the country.
He added that Mr. Mahama began to address the concerns of the creative industry, but he was unable to do so since his tenure had expired.
“I pray Mahama will continue the good works he was doing for the creative arts industry so we boom as we should” , commented the comedian.
