David Kankam Boadu, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former spokesperson for the late Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, is being urged by party grassroots supporters to contest the NPP’s National Chairmanship position.
Although Boadu has not officially declared his intention to run, according to semi-reliable sources within his camp, many within the party see him as a unifying figure with the experience and vision to guide the party into the future, especially considering its humiliating defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Known for his commitment to the party’s ideals and extensive grassroots engagement, Boadu previously vied for the National Chairmanship in 2017, gaining respect for his dedication and humility.
Boadu has a rich history within the NPP, both locally and internationally.
He played a pivotal role in establishing the party’s presence in the United Kingdom, founding the NPP Milton Keynes chapter before returning to Ghana in 2006.
His grassroots engagement and advocacy for unity have earned him widespread respect within the party.
In 2017, as an aspiring National Chairman, Boadu laid out his vision for selfless and grassroots-focused leadership.
His New Year message at the time highlighted the importance of humility, accountability, and preparation for the future.
“Leaders must remain visible and accessible to the people who elected them. The spirit of service, not self-interest, should guide us all,” he stated.
Boadu had before the general elections voiced concerns about internal divisions within the NPP, warning that disunity and neglect of the grassroots could undermine the party’s efforts to “break the 8” in 2024.
At the time, he had called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to address the root causes of factionalism and ensure that the party remained focused on its collective goals.
“The party is bigger than any individual, and our strength lies in unity. The grassroots are the backbone of the NPP, and we must prioritize their needs,” he asserted.
