Mahama’s victory is Ghana’s ‘second liberation’

The Soyaya Movement, a well-known National Democratic Congress (NDC) faction, has congratulated John Mahama and the NDC party on their resounding win in the general elections of 2024.

As a potential primary patron of the movement, the statement also thanked the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, for her steadfast dedication and assistance during the campaign.

Dr. Yakubu Gowin, speaking on behalf of the group’s leadership, said the overwhelming win was a clear affirmation of the NDC’s principles and agenda as the remedy for the corruption and economic problems that characterized the previous administration’s term.

“This massive victory shows that the country was yearning for change, and John Mahama, in particular, was the leader Ghanaians needed to reset the nation on the path to growth and prosperity for the masses,” said Dr Gowin.

He described the victory as a “second liberation” or “independence” for Ghana, symbolising the opportunity to recover from what the Movement called the abysmal performance of the NPP government over the past eight years.

“This is a victory for unity, progress, and prosperity for all,” he added.

The Soyaya Movement emphasized that Ghanaians were keen to get past the lost years since they had experienced some of the worst government in recent memory.

They think the country is ready for a new beginning in the direction of sustainable development under Mahama’s leadership.

Dr. Gowin promised Mahama and his government that the movement will continue to support the implementation of policies that will boost economic growth and hasten the development of the country.

The Soyaya Movement, a women’s organization with more than 1.3 million members nationwide, was crucial to the NDC’s triumph.

To ensure the party’s overwhelming victory, its members, officials, and donors relentlessly campaigned across the nation.

For the successful mobilization throughout the nation, the Soyaya Movement expressed its gratitude to all of our national, regional, and constituency executives.

“In particular, we also extend our deepest appreciation to our senior brother and boss, Dr Callistus Mahama, and other key personalities such as Mohammed Ali (Ghana), Dr Sulemana Abdulai Jawula (USA), and Dr Mohammed Tijani (USA) for their invaluable support both financial, moral and strategy that enabled the movement achieved its campaign objectives,” it added.
