Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South Constituency, has spoken out about the unrest surrounding the constituency’s election results as reported by MyNews GH on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
The delayed announcement by the Electoral Commission (EC) has heightened tensions, with both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claiming victory.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Adjei-Mensah Korsah asserted that he was in the lead after collating results from 141 polling stations.
“I was leading by over 7,000 votes,” he stated, citing internal party tallies that demonstrated a significant advantage. To ensure the integrity of their data, his team duplicated pink sheets, keeping copies before submitting the originals to the EC for verification.
The MP accused opposition supporters of disrupting the collation process, attributing discrepancies to their actions.
After the initial unrest subsided, Adjei-Mensah Korsah and his team returned to the collation center to continue the process.
However, the tension reignited when NDC supporters allegedly stormed the venue again, destroying Electoral Commission materials and accusing officials of deliberately delaying the announcement to favor the NPP candidate.
“The police tried their best to manage the situation, but they were overwhelmed by the numbers of NDC supporters present,” Adjei-Mensah Korsah noted. Despite the challenges, he maintained that his party’s figures indicated a victory margin of over 3,000 votes.
The MP urged calm, calling on all parties to trust the legal and electoral systems in place.
With the Techiman South Constituency embroiled in one of Ghana’s most contentious electoral disputes, many are anxiously awaiting the EC’s final declaration to resolve the standoff.
Adjei-Mensah Korsah’s account highlights the need for transparency and peaceful resolution in maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s democratic processes.
